BioPulisher is planning to launch permanent QR Codes
Published:13 Jun.2011    Source:BioPublisher

A QR code (abbreviation for Quick Read code) is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) that is readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be text, URL, or other data. QR codes are everywhere nowadays.

BioPublisher aims at improving the user experience. In order to make a convenience for our readers, authors, researchers and others who interest in our publications, we are planning to launch a permanent QR-Code feature -- a QR code pattern will be appeared on the page of every published article.

The following pattern is a QR code pattern generated by CrossRef QR-Code API for the article: Expression and Localization of Cry1Ac22 Crystal Protein from Bacillus thuringiensis W015-1 in Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)

If you scan the above pattern with a camera phone or other QR-code readers, you can get the following information automatically through the readers:
Expression and Localization of Cry1Ac22 Crystal Protein from Bacillus thuringiensis W015-1 in Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae)
http://dx.doi.org/10.5376/bt.2010.01.0002

All BioPublisher QR codes will be generated by the CrossRef API. CrossRef has created a API that will take a CrossRef DOI and turn it into a QR Code. The QR Code will include the title of the document pointed to by the CrossRef DOI as well as the “htttp://dx.doi.org” URL of that will allow you to link to that item. Most mobile phone QR Code readers will allow you to bookmark, share or link to the URLs thus encoded.

This QR-Code plan is getting started by the BioPublisher Team, and it will be launched very soon.
