Abstract

The emergence of CRISPR gene editing technology has garnered global attention, as its efficient, precise, and reliable characteristics signify humanity's capability to make precise edits at the genomic level. However, the widespread application of CRISPR technology has brought forth a series of ethical, moral, and regulatory challenges, emphasizing the crucial need for a careful assessment of its potential impacts and the establishment of governance mechanisms. This review aims to delve into the ethical principles and regulatory challenges faced by CRISPR gene editing technology and their implications for global governance. It covers fundamental concepts of CRISPR technology, ethical challenges including ethical principles and the role of ethical committees, as well as the regulatory and legal challenges associated with CRISPR technology. A comprehensive understanding of the challenges posed by CRISPR technology can guide responsible global governance. The extensive application of CRISPR technology will impact scientific research, medical fields, as well as social ethics and regulatory frameworks. Hence, conscientiously addressing the ethical and regulatory challenges brought about by CRISPR technology is a crucial step in ensuring its safe application. This review offers insights and references for global governance, highlighting the importance of in-depth research and international collaboration in the field of CRISPR technology to foster its safe and responsible development.
